Extractions: The Western Canada Wilderness Committee (WCWC) is Canada's largest membership-based citizen-funded wilderness preservation organization. WCWC strives for the preservation of wilderness through research and education. Working only through lawful means, WCWC advocates and promotes ecological principles and democratic actions that achieve sustainable communities. An estimated 30,000 species worldwide are going extinct every year largely due to habitat destruction. In Manitoba, many species of wildlife are listed on Cosewic's (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada) "Species at Risk" list. The woodland caribou, red-headed woodpecker, and grey fox are just a few that are at risk. The survival of a species is dependent on its having a place to live. This is one of the reasons that clearcut logging in Manitoba’s Provincial Parks is a growing concern. Clearcut logging is a highly mechanized, low employment practice that destroys huge tracts of forested land. Here are some facts you may not know:

Extractions: A survey of veterinarians has shown that they are in favor of the use of complementary and alternative medicine in veterinary practice. More than a third of the respondents indicated that they had used one of the 10 forms of complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM) identified in the study, and 30 percent claimed to have obtained a postgraduate or tertiary qualification in a form of CAVM. The study was conducted by Dr Rowan Kilmartin, a veterinary surgeon from Queensland, as part of his RMIT Masters Degree in Animal Chiropractic. The project was a descriptive study to determine the attitudes of 500 veterinary practitioners in private practice in Australia (Queensland) to complementary and alternative medicine. The study also sought to determine which therapies, if any, were considered by the veterinarians to be useful adjuncts in veterinary practice. A 34 percent response was obtained and included 85 male and 63 female practitioners. The mean number of years these veterinarians had spent in practice was 15.32. The majority of respondents were from small animal practices. The majority of respondents considered the use of CAVM to be appropriate in practice provided the practitioner was properly trained. Animal physiotherapy and veterinary acupuncture were found to be the most universally accepted therapies. Animal chiropractic, vitamin and mineral therapy were also found to be well accepted.
