Product Description
Teens often hear about other teens who get into trouble with the law. But they’re seldom asked what they think should happen next and why. A unique introduction to the juvenile justice system, THEY BROKE THE LAW—YOU BE THE JUDGE invites teens to preside over a variety of real-life cases. They meet Adam, who makes a threat in school; Erica, who assaults another student and uses marijuana; and more young people who commit crimes and are caught. Like a judge, readers learn each teen’s background, the relevant facts, and the sentencing options available. After deciding on a sentence, they find out what really happened—and where each offender is today. Along the way, readers learn Judge Jacobs’s concerns about each case, reflect on probing questions, and discover that they can’t jump to conclusions. Teens (and teachers) who want more can visit the Free Spirit Web site for role-playing ideas and scenarios related to the stories, which are available as free downloads. !Thought-provoking and eye-opening, this book is for all teens who want to know more about the juvenile justice system and the laws that pertain to them and their peers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book and learning tool
I purchased this book as it was one on a list provided by our school for a summer book report project and the title interested my son.We both read the book and found it to be very interesting for different reasons. My son learned about the juvenile judicial system and the case studies provided a good opportunity for discussion with my son about various topics - how poor friend choices and peer pressure can cause someone to make poor decisions; what happens to those who break the law; how drugs can mess up your life, etc.I really thought that this was a great book for many reasons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Judges in the making
I have used this book with juveniles I work with on probation. It is neat to see them problem solve the cases and how many times they would actually punish the crime much harder than what the judge actually decided. This book creates great discussions and has a lot of value in the therapeutic groups for problem solving.I highly recommend this book to use with teens in all different ways. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Troubled Youth Loved This Book
As a volunteer working with boys in the juvenile justice system, I was able to read this book to some troubled youths at a residential treatment center. They thought the book was terrific--not only did they identify with the cases described, but the legal afternotes provoked much discussion about the consequences of their own actions. It is written at a level that even the boys with limited verbal skills could understand it.

4-0 out of 5 stars teens on trial review
Right off the bat I want to notify you that this is a book about law and trial. Now, the pros and cons of this book, one of the pros of this book is the fact that it was non-fiction. It didn't tell a fake story, it was all real. Something else positive about this book is that you learn something about the law each case.
Some cons of the book are the number of pages. It is a short book. Another problem I had was the time spent writing about each case. I feel the author could have elaborated on the case more. For example, the author could have showed the evidence from the case and gave the defending argument, instead of only giving the prosecutions argument.
Overall the good and bad, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the law and non-fiction books that are short and to the point.
So go out to the library and check out "Teens on Trial."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for high school law teachers!
As a high school law teacher, I found this book a great resource for student discussions. The court cases are written in easy to understand "kid" language. Both sides are presented clearly and fairly.Additional related discussion questions are presented with each case as well as possible answers. My students found the court cases relevant and interesting. At the end of each section, additional court cases are listed to review. It's a great book for teenagers! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special
I see this book as a regular self-help book, specifically geared toward teens. Theres nothing unique or special about it. Product Description
The LAW OF ATTRACTION is now available in a fictional novel for the young reader and teens.
SPIRIT BOY, the lead character, still looks like the 11-year-old kid he was when he died. When he spots two boys heading down the same dead-end-road he traveled, he knows he must help them understand the `LAW OF ATTRACTION,' so they can change their lives for the better.

Sam has a huge secret. When his mother mysteriously disappeared one day, his 16-year-old brother dropped out of school so he could take care of him. They both live in fear that they'll be caught and end up in the Foster Care system and separated from each other. Sam's bused everyday to a school in one of LA's wealthier neighborhoods. Henry lives there with his spoiled teenage sister. They look like they're the rich kids, who have this great life but they don't. Henry has a secret too. His family is on the brink of bankruptcy. His father, a white-collar worker, was fired three months earlier.

During a detention Sam befriends the new school principal and is invited to be part of her after-school music class. He also discovers that his new friend, Spirit Boy, talks to his archenemy Henry.

They both learn an important lesson, "with every action, there's a reaction." These two boys finally become friends, and their class gets the opportunity to record a positive rap song they wrote with one of the hottest rap stars in town. 'One smile is worth a thousand words.' ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spirit Boy Forever
Spirit Boy changed the way I look at education and my children. This book was so inspirational and educational, it has changed my life and the life of my kids.
Knowing and learning about 'the Law of Attraction' through a literary source, and not 'self help', allowed me to understand the principles better and really see how change can happen. The two boys and 'wartface' showed that anyone can change their vibrations and make their life better.
I highly recommend this book to parents and kids both. ... Read more

Product Description
Teen Law is a general legal guide for teenagers everywhere. It is written in friendly, novel-like style to beckon young readers. The book covers the laws relating to auto accidents, sex, alcohol, drugs, contracts, school activities, traffic tickets and hearings, military service, curfew, insurance policies and claims, apartment leases, credit score building, copyright protection, employment, damages to you and to others, and search and seizure. Each chapter presents a unique legal subject and practical tips for understanding legal issues, avoiding legal land mines and using the law to the reader's advantage. Reviews:-- As a former prosecutor and criminal court judge and a current law school professor, I am aware of the importance of our youth taking the law seriously. In that regard, one of the most powerful tools we can provide as parents, teachers, and community leaders is a meaningful education of legal consequences. Teen Law helps us in that regard. It is comprehensive, accurate and entertaining. I recommend the book to every adult who cares about our young people.-- Professor Lupe Salinas -Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University; Houston, Texas-- I cannot overstate the importance of our youth understanding and respecting the law; it is not enough merely to say that the law is a serious matter; rather, we must find a more effective message; Teen Law strikes me as that type of message.--Donna Goode -Former Bureau Chief, Special Prosecutions Bureau; Harris County, Texas, District Attorney's OfficeThe author, David Levin is a member of the State Bar of Texas and practices law in Houston. ...
