Extractions: Tech Prep: A NIACC/High School Partnership High school students in Tech Prep programs can complete a year of college while still in high school The student usually begins the Tech Prep program in his/her junior year taking only one or two NIACC courses. Several of the high school courses articulate into NIACC's programs if the student earns an "A" or "B" and meets the competency requirements. During the senior year, enrolled students spend about half of their school day taking NIACC career program classes with the remaining school day spent at the high school in required and articulated classes. All tuition and textbook costs are paid through a combination of high school, NIACC, and state incentive funds. There is no cost to the student except for transportation and/or tool cost in some programs. The student can earn a one-year NIACC career program diploma by the end of his/her senior year. At that time a student can choose to go to work or continue his/her college education at NIACC to earn an Associate Degree.
