5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent inrtroduction to homeopathy
Everything is here: the history of homeopathy, what to expect if you visit a homeopath, possible scientific explanations, and anecdotes collected from users. Central to the book is the story of her son's cure from autism utilizing homeopathy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haven't even finished reading it yet and have to give it 5 stars!
As I already commented on Jennifer Scoville's review (2005), the reviews here are fantastic! They inspired me to get the book - in fact TWO - and I can't contain myself to wait until I've finished the book before writing a review!

I first heard about homeopathy about 28 years ago. I bought the two most recommended books - both by Dana Ullman - and stumbled my way a little here and there when my kids were little.

Flash forward a number of years later and I had the good fortune of seeking out Dr. Timothy Doolittle, author of "Beyond Flat Earth Medicine" and got very excited all over again about homeopathy.

This time around I wanted to get a special gift for a niece who just gave birth to twins after trying for over 10 years to get pregnant. So, I bought them a homeopathic kit and wanted to select just the right book/s to go along with it and am so glad that I picked this book as one of them.

I absolutely LOVE this book and will leave all the literary finesse with words to all the other reviewers who already did a spectacular job describing it and for which I say "Touche!" as they hit it on the head.

The only thing I would say is that it is NOT a book ABOUT a mom with an autistic child, looking for help as it is about the wondrous science of homeopathy and how a mother discovered homeopathy's ability to heal and CURE as a result of this great concern for her autistic child. (There's a difference.)

But the book is so much more and I am going to recommend it to all my friends and family members as a must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book is a must read for everyone interested in alternative health care. It is an excellent eye opener to a whole new way of looking at a holistic approach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and entertaining
I am making a film about homeopathy and doing a lot of research on the subject. I found Impossible Cure to be one of the best books about homeopathy written for a layperson. It explains a difficult system of medicine in an accessible way. I read it cover to cover and learned a tremendous amount. It provides a great deal of information without being dry. I enjoyed every chapter. A very important book.

5-0 out of 5 stars great resource!

3-0 out of 5 stars "D" Not for "Doctor," "C" Not for "Caution."
A good reference book, chock-full of useful information! However, it is the philosophy of the book that concerns me.

First of all, if a person is seriously ill or needs surgery, for the love of all that is holy, go to a DOCTOR. NO book on homeopathy should advocate using home remedies over true healthcare! It's completely irresponsible! Medicine has come a LONG way, and I'm sick of people touting their "doctors don't know anything" arguments. If doctors didn't know anything, we wouldn't have such a low infant mortality rate, or a high life expectancy in this country.

Secondly, I worry over a book that states that *all* homeopathic remedies are safe. Many homeopathic remedies can be just as dangerous as pharmaceuticals (sometimes moreso). Most of our drugs have been synthesized from plant materials. These plant products contain chemicals, like everything on Earth, and some, regardless of where they've come from (a forest or a science lab), can be harmful to humans and animals. Be discriminating and use caution.

Thirdly, I question the "history" outlined in the Introduction. Medicine made huge strides in the 1800's, but it was far from perfect. It was nothing like what we have today. Of course the mortality rates were higher! They didn't have the technology yet! Pasteur and Bernard didn't prove the germ theory until 1862! I find my trust lacking in a person who refutes the effectiveness of something *before* it was created. Somebody needs a history lesson--badly.

I'm all for inexpensive first-aid and general "wellness" care, but do some research first, and don't let a home remedy stand between you and getting the proper medical care that you or a loved one needs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Homeopathy is pretend
Yeah, you guys basically paid for a book that tells you how to give your kids water. I could have done that. For free.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
This book is a good reference for anybody wanting to look up homeopathic remedies for most any ailment. I use it often. It is easy to read and contains only useful and necessary information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, very accessible and current
I found this to be an excellent resource for basic homeopathy. It is written clearly, and is full of information, however, very easy to read. I read it in a weekend, and figured out some very beneficial remedies for myself. It includes a reference by illness, as well as a guide to some of the more common remedies. It covers common problems, as well as life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Also includes sections on newer, exotic and as-yet-undiscovered illnesses (such as antibiotic-resistant strains, anthrax, influenza, etc), as well as sections on simple way to make your own remedies. The history and success rate of homeopathy are very impressive... Homeopathy is also fast acting, and very inexpensive (averages around 8 cents per dose). I never knew the AMA was formed by physicians in reaction to the high success rates and low cost of homeopathy... not surprised. Anyway, I think it's an excellent book. If I were to buy one book about homeopathy, this would be a very sound choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favortie homeopathy books
This is such a well written book with lots of great information. Not only does Alan Schmukler give information for common illness, but he also goes into what to do in case there is and epidemic. As he mentions, these are strange times with diseases resisting antibiotics, terrorist attacks and so forth.I feel better prepared with this book and purchasing the remedies needed to have on hand in case something major happens and hospitals are too full or if I can't even get to a hospital... I'll know how to take care of me and my family from the simplest cold all the way to Anthrax. This is a must have book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Homeopathy 101 - The Basics
This is a great book about the basics of homeopathy. Anyone wanting to learn about homeopathy should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review is of the 1995 edition
This is without a doubt one of the books you will want in your library on the subject of homeopathy.

I had the good fortune of seeing Dr. Dooley on a couple of occasions and when he mentioned his book, I couldn't wait to get it.

I love his simple and earthy (pun intended) writing style and his explanation of homeopathy is so well defined that this is the book I would most recommend to someone just hearing of homeopathy for the very first time.

He writes as if you are in the room and he is talking with you. You can 'hear' his enthusiasm and excitement while he shares the wonders, the blessings, the absolute Gift that homeopathy is.

This book will always be a favorite of mine; even moreso because of having met him in person and it is because of his enthusiasm that I have continued on over the years to spread the message.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dooley does a good job in taking some of the mystery out of the topic of holistic medical science.
Can you treat patients with heavily diluted preparations which are thought to cause
effects similar to the symptoms presented?

You can if you believe the holistic medical science called homeopathy . . . I'm not sure
that I do, but wanting to know more about the subject, I read an informative book
called HOMEOPATHY: BEYOND FLAT EARTH MEDICINE by Dr. Timothy R. Dooley
(a family physician).

Dooley does a good job in taking some of the mystery out of the topic, presenting
some history along the way . . . he also presented several case studies, which
I found interesting, along with this recommendation:

* The best way to get results is to make homeopathy your primary form of therapy. That
is to say, homeopathy is what you think of first and pursue first in your healthcare needs.

As a medical doctor, I say with conviction that conventional medicine is what should be
used secondarily, as a backup to homeopathy, and not the other way around. A patient
should first give their system a chance to heal naturally and only resort to drug therapy
when truly necessary.

He goes on to point out:

* Patients who want results with homeopathy, or any form of therapy for that matter, need
to be committed. This means following the advice of the practitioner, scheduling follow-up
appointments as directed, and working with the practitioner when problems arise.

After reading HOMEOPATHY, I'm not quite willing to go that route with respect
to my medical treatment . . . however, I'm at least open to the possibility that
it may work for some folks--and if that's the case, I'm glad for them.

3-0 out of 5 stars Homeopathic for Pets
I was told I had to read this book before my cat could undergo a $200.00 homeopathic evaluation.Six weeks later he continues to sneeze (up to 20 times in a row).I realize this is a remedy that takes time but I have never had any positive results from taking homepathic medicine myself.Talk about sugar pills!!! I just received a new "remedy" and hang on to hope that my little cat can recover from my big mistake of letting him get too many vaccines at one time.DON'T DO IT TO YOUR PET.Go online and you'll see that many pet owners AND vets are opposed to giving vaccines and for very good reasons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent yet brief description of homeopathy
This is one of the most concise and yet thorough and easy to understand explanations of what homeopathic medicine is on the market.I highly recommend anyone considering homeopathic care to read this book before they start. If you are at all curious about this unique form of healthcare called homeopathy, read the book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Complete Starting Level Homeopathy
I used the questionnaire in this book and found that the remedy it discovered for my constitutional type was later matched by what a homeopath found through her interview process. The book has everything a person needs to do some basic level good work on themselves with homeopathy. What going to a homeopath may add to this book is that a homeopath works with a wider range of remedies than the ones mentioned in the book (though the set of remedies in this book covers a lot of common ailments) and a homeopath can check to see if the dosage or remedy needs to be changed as the remedy picture changes (it may be possible to do this partly by taking the questionnaire again and noticing where your answers are changing, and then seeing what remedy better fits the picture). In any case, this book is a good starting point and can help one to handle a wide range of common ailments. It may give an incentive to see what more can be gained by working with a skilled homeopath. The questionnaire is what makes this book distinctive, since it produces a deeper remedy picture than merely seeing if your symptoms fit some description of a remedy. The pictures and layout of the book also deepen the feeling about each remedy and add to the overall presentation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
This is one of the best books on Homeopathy out there. Very easy to understand and extremely helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great information

5-0 out of 5 stars Thats where you may want to start

It helps you understand why your physician prescribes a treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must have...
If you are expecting, a parent, professional or person interested in homeopathy - especially for children, this is a great book. I ordered this book in the mid stages of my interest in homeopathy...now I am at the career stage and I still use this as a secondary reference book. It's very well organized, includes many common childhood illnesses/concerns, clear to understand, has a materia medica section and repertory. It may also be very helpful for specifics regarding children, that may otherwise be more obscure or lacking in other reference books. The author has already extracted many of those specifics, allowing you to have a quick point of reference for diagnosis. Definitely, one of the better books on homeopathy regarding children, allowing focus on their common symptoms and characteristics. This allows you to select their remedy picture more accurately, offering more overall success with homeopathy. Happy reading...

I would highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to use homeopathy during their pregnancy, childbirth or for their baby.

As a future midwife and current nursing student, my biggest fear for women today is the lack of education on their rights in regards to their own healthcare. Many women do not question the medications or therapies their doctors suggest, and unfortunately many health professionals are prone to the "quick fix."This leaves many women disappointed in side effects or unaware of potential damage occurring within their bodies. This book is a must for all women seeking true answers to their health options as well as options for their children. It is enlightening and informative, and it does not discount traditional medicine all together. It simply encourages women to take an active role in their healthcare and know that they have rights and choices during a very important time in their lives.Thank you, Miranda Castro for an educational, comprehensive, and non-biased reference! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible book to educate the layperson
I hardly have the words to describe what I've learnt from this book. It's so good that I'm actually studying it, like a textbook.I've benefited substantially from the following features:

* Numerous case studies: The case studies have been extremely beneficial. From them, I've learnt more about the individual remedies. But, more importantly, I've gained an insight into how the homeopath thinks and reasons when selecting an appropriate remedy and how s/he would go on to select further remedies as the layers of symptoms present themselves.

* Section on miasms: This book contains lengthy secions on each of the miasms ... invaluable.

* Section on maintaining causes of disease: Includes chapters indicating how defective nutrition, allergens, family politics, etc. can all contribute to maintaining disease, thus raising awareness of the need to address these issues in addition to using appropriate homeopathic remedies.

I can only recommend this book to any layperson who really wants to start understanding homeopathy better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This book is an eye opener to many misconception about vaccines, birth control, cancer, and more. It's a must have for anyone who wants to get more into homeopathy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This book should be required reading in all homeopathy schools. This author is very well educated and covers many points of view on the practice of homeopathy!!!! Well written and easy to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must
This is the first review I've ever written, and the only reason I'm wtiting it is to help others from making my mistake. First off, even if you have a couple of shelves full of homeopathy books, this is the one that will help you make more sense of the others. One of the big things that holds homeopathy back is that learning it is like reconstructing a shattered kaleidoscope; this book addresses that. But the main reason I'm writing this is to tell people that you can buy this book new for $45.00 from Minimum Books. I paid over $80.00 last week buying it off Amazon Marketplace, and I'm a little miffed that Amazon doesn't put in a link to alternative scources when Amazon no longer stocks the book in question. If you don't know better (and I didn't), you'd think that this book is no longer in print, and merits the inflated prices. I'm a very loyal Amazon customer, but babies, this is a weak link (no pun intended) in the jungle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and useful recent history of alternative medicine
Recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about how the practice of medicine got to be where it is today. Over the past two hundred years, it has not been altogether clear which is main stream medicine and what is alternative, and this book details how we got here and shows that the current state is due as much to politics as to science. Also, this book is very useful if you wish to know more about the different schools of homeopathy and their rather unintegrated views of best homeopathic prescription practices, such as one high dose vs. multiple low doses.

This isn't a book for the lay person learning how to use homeopathy to treat himself and his family. The detailed writing got a bit plodding for me as the author gets into the details of the lives of the great figures of alternative medicine including Hahnemann, Rademacher, Samuel Thomsom, Kent and Bach.

Vitalism: The History of Herbalism, Homeopathy, and Flower Essences is an incredibly useful resource for those familiar with the topic who wish to substantially deepen their understanding.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN INTERESTING HISTORICAL SURVEY OF HERBALISM, AND SIMILAR PRACTICES
Matthew Wood is a practicing herbalist and homeopath; in this book he gives sympathetic treatment of practices he terms "Vitalism" (defined as "the recognition that the physical body is animated by a vital life force").Homeopathic practitioners are a particular focus of the book.

This book provides a general history of herbalism and related practices, focusing primarily on seven figures: Paracelsus, Samuel Hahnemann (the founder of Homeopathy), Johann Gottfried Rademacher, Samuel Thomson (the "root doctor," known as the "father of herbalism"), James Tyler Kent (who developed the "philosophy" behind Homeopathy), James Compton Burnett, and Edward Bach (of "Flower essences" fame).

Wood considers the Renaissance alchemist and physician Paracelsus to be the source for the "Law of Similars" principle, usually expressed as "Like treats like."

Wood concludes the book with a chapter summarizing the "Vital Doctrines of Vitalist Medicine."

This book contains a lot of historical information as well as current comments of relevance to those interested in herbalist and homeopathic methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Regardind Science-Ejected Vitalism, 1996:
Vitalism is a profoundly science-ejected concept, though many CAM or 'natural health' cabals falsely claim that vitalism survives scientific scrutiny.

This ND's book is a prime example of naturopathic vitalism [aka "vis medicatrix naturae"].

I quote:

"[chapter] 4 - the life force. [Aka] biological intelligence [...] an inherent, intrinsic biological intelligence [...] coordinates every aspect of our physical life: digestion, breathing, heart pumping, clearing of wastes and toxins from the body, and the healing of tissue [...] respect for life as intelligent, rather than mechanical [...] the concept of 'life force' (prana, chi, dynamis) is the cornerstone of most systems of natural healing [...] aspects of life force: intelligence: the most obvious quality of the life force [...] control [...] energy: life force is part of, and expresses itself through, energy systems. [E.g.,] the chakra system ancient India and meridian system of acupuncture [...per] subtle functions of the life force [p.021...] adaptability [...] response-ability [...] disease and the life force. The life force resides in the deepest core of the individual. In homeopathy, it is considered that all disease starts in the life force, and all disease affects the life force [...] symptoms [...are] an expression of a strong, congruent life force [...] homeopathic remedies require a response from the life force [p.022...] the nature of causes [...] what matters is how deep an impact they have made on our being and how they affect the life force [p.029...] in deformity or contracture of the wrist, the grotesque shape formed by the wrist is a striking image of contracted, suppressed life force [p.104...] in Eastern traditions this is considered the center of physical prowess and of the life force itself [p.106]."

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Resource
Here is a user-friendly guide to treating a wide range of health problems homeopathically.Besides arthritis, it is a book to go to for spine, knee, hip, foot or ankle problems, as well as headaches. Also presents alternatives for conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome.Extremely clear and well-organized, it offers the reader the benefit of a great deal of experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars an invaluable resource
I concur with the previous reviewer. I'm a chiropractor with some formal training in homeopathy and before purchasing this book I was pretty much at a loss as to how to integrate acute homeopathy into my practice. This book changed everything. I now have a pharmacy of over 100 remedies that I use on a regular basis. I now have a foundation onto which I can add knowledge gained from practical experience. But be forwarned: This book will help out a great deal with acute prescribing, but don't think that you will be able to tackle constitutional levels of healing without additional training and practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of book on homeopathy
I had seen this book in my local library and thought it was a valuable book.I was pleased to see that Amazon boks carried it and I purchased a copy for myself and a copy for each of two nieces.I think this is an excellent reference book and feel they will benefit from it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review
This wasn't the first book on homeopathy that I got but I wish it was. I had gotten one previous one and then this one for christmas along with another but this is the only one i use.It is very indepth. I gives excellent remedies for sever PMS pains, mood swings etc, that the broader more basic books do not cover. It also goes into remedies for other issues I am using it for but don't want to go into detail. My friend lives on a farm and had a chicken who was stepped on and a week later still couldn't sit up right.I decided to look into my homeopahty for dogs book, not this one, at home to see if there was anything to help. I was thinking it would only help for pain but a day later after giving her 4 different remedies, she was walking, no joke, it was a miracle. My friend also had a goat die of mastitis and even w/ vet help and antibiotics still died, this was before we knew of homeopathy, if only.I was a little bit of a skeptic of homeopathy and herbs but now I'm a fanatic, I just need a bumper sticker to go along w/ my animal rights ones.I am still however looking for a more detailed book that covers most every remedy b/c while this covers an exceptional many, even ones they don't have at the health store and I have to order, I have noticed they don't list all the ones that the homeopathic companies sell, so I'm still browsing for a more thorough book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this book with a lot of expectations. I based my decision to buy the book on the basis of excellent reviews of Lockie's other book that is unfortunately out of print. I have been extremely disappointed to find that the book lacks depth and is certainly not an encyclopedia as it is made out to be. It is not even good enough to work as a reference book. In "Select your remedy section", you are hopelessly out of choices as no more than two cases are covered. So for a diaper rash, either I have sulphur or belladona, there is no other choice.

The remedies section lacks depth. Take the case of Carcinosin, you don't get any information as how many types of Carcinosin's are available and what does it do, except that it is a nosode for treating cancer. The list is endless.

I am disappointed to buy this book which cost as much as its price in postage. You will not loose anything if you decide not to buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it to believe it!
If you are already knowledgeable about homeopathy, this book will give you a clearer understanding of the human body, health and disease, which is essential before you get into the details of Materia Medica.

And if you are not, and are just curious to know what homeopathy is all about, and how it works wonders in areas where traditional medicine has miserably failed, then you should hear from the master himself, George Vithoulkas. Let me warn you, you might just get converted!

1-0 out of 5 stars A giant leap for science... towards the 12th century
I was looking for a must-have book on homeopaty. Some people told me about this one being The Book. Despite of the title, there is no science on it, just hocus pocus and ad hoc theories. I would recommend this book only if you are a hardcore believer on homeopathy or maybe if you've been frozen for 9 centuries and still believe in alchemy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excerpts should be displayed where homeopathic remedies are sold
This excellent book is for students and/or beginning practitioners, but it should be required reading before consumers are allowed to purchase so-called homeopathic remedies, or worse, visit allopaths and naturopaths who profit from consumer interest in homeopathy.

After reading this book, you will realize that anyone who tells you homeopathic remedies are "safe" is at best ignorant, and any allopath or naturopath who prescribes homeopathic remedies is at best dishonest.

This book is an excellent remedy for the kind of irrational, magical thinking that leads fools to believe there can be a powerful medicine that is also perfectly safe in the hands of an idiot.Read it before you buy an OTC homeopathic remedy for the flu, or before you believe you are getting the best of all possible worlds when you visit an allopath or naturopath who claims expertise inhomeopathy.

This is advice from a person whose introduction to homeopathy wasbeing harmed by a naturopath (I wish I could publish her name and address) practising the art of extracting dollars from the gullible.Allopathy and naturopathy are systems that are completely antithetic to homeopathy. No honest person can practise both, a fact that this book makes pefectly clear.

With this book, George Vithoulkas has served both the student of homeopathy and the general public.

5-0 out of 5 stars From the living Master of classical homeopathy
Excellent introductory book for the serious reader.
Compliments the reading of the Organon.

5-0 out of 5 stars The philosophy of classical homeopathy.
It has been well said that to learn things right you must study from the Masters. This book is written on the philosophy and orthodox practice of homeopathy (h/p) by the living master of classical h/p, George Vithoulkas.
It is a complete book that puts homeopathy in the right context from the beginning. It teaches the virtue of finding the correct remedy and practicing patience and restrain rather than the "fast food" approach to h/p common today.
While it is targeted to the prescriber (or student of h/p) it is highly recommended for the educated 'patient' who wants a rounded understanding on the subject. Furthermore, Appendix B is worth the whole price of the book.
This is a book of substance. You may read it overnight like many books but what is important, this is a book to read three times and still come back to it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My go to book for homeopathic remedies
In the mid 90s i got several books on homeopathy. This was the only one i found useful. It's an A to Z format listing remedies and conditions, very comprehensive.Under each condition, it lists specific characteristics of the condition, for example, Cough, dry, wet, improved by drinking water, improved by eating, and with each of these specific characteristics, it gives a remedy. I have used this many times, looking up a condition, and then trying the remedy for that specific version of the condition, with frequent success, helpful more often than not, often dramatically. All the other books on homeopathy i got either sit on the shelf unused or have been given away. This is the one that's been practically helpful. 5-0 out of 5 stars Goes Deeper than Let Like Cure Like
Having returned to Let Like Cure Like several times to put the pieces of my own profile into place, I was excited to see that this book provides just the kind of specificity I was looking for.Pinpointing common environmental factors as elemental as air or water, the reader can easily relate to McCabe's suggestions. The strength of his approach is his holistic approach rather than isolating certain factors. It's about how environment and the body are integrated that makes finding solutions plausible. With recent controversies about vaccines and their connections to chronic conditions and even genetic factors, this book is even more relevant now than when it was written.Above all, the reader will emerge with a more deliberate understanding of her/his own body and well being.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great collection of useful homeopathy treatments.
This is a great homeopathic book to keep as a reference. For more than 10 years I have used homeopathic remedies and I still refer to this book for the condensed version of acute treatments. The author's knowledge in homeopathy is far greater than most practitioners I have dealt with.I love the simplicistic information on remedies. I highly recommend reading all of Vinton McCabe's books.Practical Homeopathy

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a book you will refer to over and over again!
This is a well written and highly comprehensive book for anyone interested in incorporating homeopathy into his or her life. Whether you are a beginner or have experience in this area of study, you will NOT be disappointed! Simply look up the symptom or ailment and find the remedy, while being thoroughly engaged in Mr.McCabe's honest and entertaining writing style. As I read passages, I feel as if he is sitting with me and coaching me along. I am a healthcare practioner as well as the mother of three children, so I have countless opportunities to use this wonderful book with both my patients and family. I have read other books on homeopathy and this one is my favorite by far.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those new to Homeopathy
I agree with the positive comments above; the book is not only accessible and informative, it is written with more flair than one has a right to expect from what is essentially a reference book.I felt as if the author were talking directly to me, with humor and a kind of tone that is nurturing without being sentimental or too "new age."He knows his subject and makes it understandable and clear. You'll be glad you purchased this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beginner's Guide - and everyone else's too
As the cover states, this book is easy to use, and handy too. It has helped my family andfriends countless times in the treatment or alleviation of symptoms of everything from colds, allergies, flu, ear aches, not to mention what seems like hundreds of first aid moments. It is easy to use and after owning this for over a year we all think to turn to it. But the more I learn and read about homeopathy, the more I realize this book is more than a beginner's guide. It is as comprehensive as anything else out there when it comes to how to treat many ailments, but it is also a book that educates about homeopathy in general- in a manner that is easy to understand and fun to read. I think that's why using homeopathic remedies is starting to feel intuitive to me. The book is a practical guide as to what remedy to use for an ailment, yes, but it also explains when and how to use remedies to their best effect. This is a great book to have handy on your shelf. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Homeopathy
Fast Delivery Time, well packed, great condition, Though choosing a remedy seems easy as selecting a remedy for an acute illness, it really takes a lot of listening to the patient and research. This book helps to quicken the pace of the research.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing book !
Written in a very good, easy-to-read language. Very helpful tips for common illness self-treatment. Highly recommend to everybody interested in the subject.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK book
This is a good book with good information. I think there are better ones out there for the beginner though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Information but in an Odd Format
I am new-ish to homeopathy but not a complete neophyte.I have been using one main book as my reference for a few months now and haven't taken any medicine, save homeopathic remedies, in about 3 months. This includes antihistamines, decongestants AND Naproxen!

I like this book but find it tricky to use.It is hard to pinpoint exactly why the layout is so cryptic but I think it's just generally not an easy reference book. The information is there, just not in a speedy format.

Remedies are organized by type but *inside* those headings are the detailed charts for specific issues, like colds etc..I guess, if you prescribe to the theory that one of these seven remedies will work for almost everything, it makes sense but I have found that I usually have symptoms that warrant another remedy so it doesn't really work for me.

Another thing that adds to the confusion is; 1) after the chart on symptoms there are more write ups and comparisons underneath as well as the main remedy's attributes. Some might find this a more detailed/comprehensive approach but I feel like I have to look 4 places to get the whole picture instead on just 1 or 2.I would have preferred the charts to be larger and more detailed over having to flip back and forth so much, and 2) There is another chart in the back with quick tips but this one has even fewer remedies listed, sometimes only one or two.I just keep feeling like I have to look here, there and everywhere to get the whole picture of the symptoms/remedies.

It would be nice, also if Kali Bich. were mentioned in the "colds" area, instead of just in the back under "sinusitis", as many head colds lead to sinus issues.

I am giving this a 4, despite my confusion with the book's layout, because it still has a lot of good information and I can tell that the author took a lot of time in considering the layout.I think, potentially due to the small layout of the book, it was just too hard to carry off and is not a huge quirk, just tricky to get used to.

I hope this helps...

3-0 out of 5 stars Biased and unfinished, but still of interest
That this book was written by someone who believes in homeopathy is clear. And advancing his viewpoint, as an author, is certainly within his right. However, the book had an unfortunate flavor of bias.It seemed as if he presented the data that supported his assertion ("homeopathy works") but, as much as he could, left out that which did not.I often wondered, also, when we were told that results were positive and "statistically significant" -- but we were not told the actual results (!) -- why those results were omitted. Was it a 10% cure rate with the placebo group and a 11% rate with the homeopathic group?

A far worse criticism than a flavor of bias was the pervading sense that this book was not finished.A few mischosen words I understand.Sentences that lack a period on the end, numerous words that are spelled incorrectly (and *obviously* so), words that don'thaveaspacebetweenthem...those things I do not understand.Or at least have a hard time forgiving.A book like this is about establishing credibility and such things are very, very damaging to credibility. If he can't even get the spelling right, how am I supposed to believe he got the substantive (and complex) material of the book right?!

All those things said, however, it had some interesting material in it that was worth reading.I especially enjoyed some of the earlier anecdotes about amazing recoveries.

So close, and yet so far.

4-0 out of 5 stars Homeopathy Books
Very Good book to read about How the Homeopathy works and the view

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Explanation of the Science Behind Homeopathy

Although Homeopathy has been producing dramatic and positive results for nearly two centuries, and in recent decades has undergone a growing body of double blind placebo tests which have produced positive results, it is a branch of medicine in the midst of controversy about the manner in which the Homeopathic mechanisms affecting a cure operate.

Dr. Bill Gray M.D. has written a book exploring these controversial issues, including easily understood discussions of the "Water Memory" question and of the astonishing research that begins to answer the question of how it might work.

In all discussions, Dr. Gray lists a long and impressive list of peer reviewed journals and the research supporting Homeopathy and/or giving positive results in double blind placebo controlled tests - specifically in the areas of asthma, childbirth, childhood diarrhea, dental neuralgic pain, hay fever and influenza.

The book has much more. Dr. Gray gives overview to the basic ideas of Homeopathy, the Law of Similars, and then mentions specific peer reviewed research that supports it - including detailed discussions of the proving experiments.

Likewise, Dr. Gray shares some of his own remarkable case histories, confessing that if he had not witnessed the results in some of these cases himself, he would have been skeptical.
These remarkable cases include the recovery of a person apparently brain damaged in a drowning accident, and an autistic child.

There have been recent, loud, condescending, even hysterical attacks against Homepathy such as the widely reported Goldacre article
that appeared in the British Guardian newspaper. Almost always, these attacks being with ridicule and high school chemistry arguments (those same arguments would render Einstein's theories to be utter nonsense but it is fruitless to remind them of this), ignore the Homepathic successes and then misrepresent research regarding Homeopathy.

This book lists plenty of research, goes beyond the high school chemistry arguments to outline what qualified modern scientific researchers are discovering and also give a good overview of Homeopathy itself.

The final chapter on Homeopathy is not yet written. The hysterical anti-Homeopathists will continue their irrational and misleading rants, and patients, desperate to try anything after the complete failure of "standard" medicine will continue to see Homeopathists and be cured.

The rational person will stop, read books such as this one by an established Homeopathic practitioner, and decide for themselves.
They will not be influenced by media organized hysteria, some of it issuing from entrenched interests who somehow feel threatened by the mere possibility that such a system of medicine as Homeopathy exists.

This book, then, constitutes and excellent information source and detailed discussion,
providing ammunition for those who will not so easily allow their medical opinions to be swayed, nor their right of choice of treatments to be restricted.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good choice for skeptics
This book is written for the layperson and, with the possible exception of the chemistry discussion, should be accessible to any reader. Gray is the first author (that I know of) to present a plausible electrochemical mechanism for homeopathy, based largely on research in quantum electrochemistry in the last three years. But that shouldn't scare off the average reader, as most of the chapters explain research results in terms understandable to non-scientists. ... Read more
