5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoying a Diet?!
We have tried several recipes out of this book in each section. Every single one has pleased my whole family including my mother-in-law :) This is one of the best cookbooks I have cooked out of not only because the food tastes fabulous but it is also easy to prepare and serve.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is a great cookbook. We use it almost daily. The recipes are easy and very good. It's not like your watching what you eat. Filling, satisfying meals. Love the glycemic breakdowns, calorie, fat, sat. fat.It really helps!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I love this book. It has everything from take along snacks to full on dinners. I've lost 12 pounds already and hopefully I'll keep going. this book is great

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes you can eat delicious foods, feel satisfied, and lose weight!
After trying just about every diet on the planet, my doctor suggested I try a low GI (Glycemic Index) diet.I was--to say the least--skeptical, and a bit mystified. My doctor didn't provide me with any kind of guide, except to tell me if it's white, don't eat it...really not too helpful. So I did my own research on the internet, and finally decided to try finding a book of some sort to help me begin my low GI quest.

In addition to another book I purchased, this cookbook has become my "go to" guide to low GI eating. It not only gives you the recipes, but also provides helpful information as to why some foods work better than others in lowering the glycemic index, but also provides numbers for glycemic loads, carb's, fat, etc. for each recipe.I've lost 10 lbs since receiving my book (about a month ago), and I'm 58 and postmenopausal! Now, I'm adding exercise to my new lifestyle, and am feeling much better than I have in years.Get this book! You will be amazed.

The Complete Idiot's Guide Glycemic Index Cookbook (Complete Idiot's Guide to)

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I thought A Complete Idiot's Guide would contain ordinary kitchen ingredients. Items like xylitol and Hi-Maize Resistant Starch are not in my kitchen, nor are they items I would purchase for a few recipes.Where would I find them in a small town in Canada?I could not find a substitute for the resistant starch on the internet, thought I could substitute Splenda for the sweetener.I bought this cookbook primarily for the dessert recipes for my diabetic husband, but without these two ingredients, it is useless. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this for your iPhone
This does not work on the iPHone. The data pages are split so that you can't associate a food name with it's Gi index or carbs. Darn shame that. It should work fine on an iPAD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly written for dummies - easy to read and easy to understand
I enjoyed how this book was written - truly for a person not in the medical field who could read the information that was easy to understand and made good sense. It also has side bar icons to draw your attention to different bits of information which was important asit guided my mind as I was reading. The icons were
right next to the artical to be read saying: "Remember""Technical Stuff""Tip" and "Warning".You could read it if you choose or skip over it because of the code beside the information such as "Technical".

It also includes a list of foods and shows which ones are a better choices for you.The receipes are great!

I have recommended this book to others and will continue to do so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy lifestyle change
The glycemic index diet for dummies is an easy book to read and follow. More than a fad diet, it is a way to change your eating habits for healthier living. I feel better overall and have lost 7 or 8 pounds in 6 wks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lose Weight Forever
Enjoy this book.It has been amazing and has opened my eyes to my eating habits and has actually changed my eating habits. So much I didn't know with regard to low glycemic foods. This book is a life changer.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has forever changed the way I look at food!
Wow. What a great read. For some background information, I am a registered dietitian and was taught that for the most part, calories in vs. calories out was the way to lose weight. I had been trying this for many years, and was unsuccessful with weight loss. Last year, I was diagnosed with PCOS, which basically stems from being insulin resistant, making it harder for me to maintain a healthy weight. At the beginning of this year, and subsequently my last year in my 20's, I knew I needed to make a change in my health to prevent diabetes and other health concerns and this would be the year to do it.

I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. The information is clear and easy to understand, and the book is a fun read with lots of humor. I couldn't believe how much I didn't know about the glycemic index/load and how different foods affect blood sugar differently. I had always assumed that as long as I kept my calories under goal, I would maintain my weight. This book taught me that the types of foods really do matter, but also, that nothing is off limits. I changed my thinking and way of eating. Now, I try to indulge in sweets and higher glycemic items as a treat vs. a daily habit.

I've also experimented with diffferent foods, mainly vegetables and grains that I would have never used. And much to my surprise, I love the taste of bulgur instead of rice, and quinoa as a grain. The recipes in the book are delicious and stuff I would actually make, unlike lots of other nutrition books with not-so-appetizing recipes. And hey, I don't miss those 25 extra pounds I was carrying around either.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to feel their best and take charge of their health. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook
It's a good book for general information. However, in the USA the Index is not on food products, but it should be!

2-0 out of 5 stars Awkward setup
Recipes are set up weird.I really didn't care for this book.Lots of filler, it seemed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great cookbook
If you have read at all about the glycemic index and find it interesting then this is the book for you. Very helpful tool for diabetics and non-diabetics. Being a grad student in nutritional science, I used the chocolate chip cookie recipe in here for a presentation on healthy baking for diabetics. Surprisingly tasty. The introduction has some excellent tips on how to cut back on fat and sugar while keeping your blood glu levels on target. Well written!

3-0 out of 5 stars forbidden foods
Some of The recipies in this book have super expensive ingredients in them. Some of the recipies are very good. I wish that the book had more of the things that real people can afford. Overall this is a nice book for diabetic cooking.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must" for the diabetic cookbook shelf.
Forbidden Foods: Diabetic Cooking presents 150 recipes for diabetics and other health conscious eaters. Many traditional comfort foods are transformed to great tasting, flavorful, lower fat versions that are healthful and delicious.Full counts of dietary exchanges, calories, fat and fiber are included with each recipe, as well as prep and cooking times and serving sizes. The introduction contains suggestions for ways to reduce fat, sugar and salt and how to increase flavor.Recipe categories include beverages, snacks, sauces and dressings, faux fried, favorites, pizza and pasta, bread and muffins, and multiple delicious desserts, pies, cookies, puddings and cakes.

It is hard to believe that you can make Eggplant Parmigiana, Banana Cream Pie, Cheesecake, Oven Fried Chicken, French Fries, Buttermilk Biscuits, and salad with Thousand Island dressing and still stay on a balanced reducing or maintainence diet, but you can according to Forbidden Foods.Of course the desserts are fabulous, but it is certainly comforting to know you can have Spaghetti and Meat Balls or Raisin Scones, or Enchilada Casserole in your daily menu.A cookbook like this encourages everyone to find a way to prepare their favorite foods that is within acceptable healthful eating limits.

Being myself a diabetic, I highly recommend Forbidden Foods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shoppers guide to the glycemic index
This book is a must have for the dieter interested in searching out the glycemicvalues on the foods they eat.It is an easy guide to follow and very informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top 3 Cookbook ever - really great stuff!
I absolutely love this cookbook.I've tried a few recipes now and I, a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and my husband, an omnivore, both love everything we've had.The pictures are gorgeous, the directions are simply stated, and there's lots of good general advice, sample meal plans for veggies and vegans, etc. And, there are plenty of recipes that aren't just salads (I hate when vegetarian has to mean just greens). My first week I've lost four pounds, and I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the recipes and getting healthier!

I whole-heartedly recommend trying this book. The only warning is that there are a few hard-to-find ingredients (e.g. kecap manis (which I got on Amazon), and Stone-ground whole-wheat self-rising flour (I found stone-ground whole-wheat flour and added baking powder per an internet recipe)).

A big thank you to these authors! :)

1-0 out of 5 stars TOO many Carbs
Some of the meals look interesting in the picture - however - the carbs and Cal. are off the scale. Also found toomany dishes using eggs. Being Diabetic as well as Vegetarian - these meals just do not work for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars ... NOT vegetarian...
I was flipping through the book and came right to a recipe that calls for gelatin, with absolutely no mention as to replacements that could be used instead. Knowing that gelatin is not vegetarian, it makes me sort of question if these authors know what they are talking about through the rest of the material.

I also don't like that the photographs of the prepared recipes do not say on them (or anywhere near them) what the recipe is or on which page to find it. It makes it incredibly difficult to use this cookbook.

On the other hand, there are a few really good recipes in here.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!
This is truly an AWESOME BOOK and I would recommend it to anyone! Has lots of great information I couldn't find anywhere else and the recipes are wonderful. I would buy this book again if I lost mine! ... Read more
