Product Description
Analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) convertersprovide the link between the analog world of transducers and thedigital world of signal processing, computing and other digital datacollection or data processing systems. Several types of convertershave been designed, each using the best available technology at agiven time for a given application. For example, high-performancebipolar and MOS technologies have resulted in the design ofhigh-resolution or high-speed converters with applications in digitalaudio and video systems. In addition, high-speed bipolar technologiesenable conversion speeds to reach the gigaHertz range and thus haveapplications in HDTV and digital oscilloscopes. Integrated Analog-to-Digital and Digital-to-Analog Convertersdescribes in depth the theory behind and the practical design of thesecircuits. It describes the different techniques to improve theaccuracy in high-resolution A/D and D/A converters and also specialtechniques to reduce the number of elements in high-speed A/Dconverters by repetitive use of comparators. Integrated Analog-to-Digital and Digital-to-Analog Converters isthe most comprehensive book available on the subject. Starting fromthe basic elements of theory necessary for a complete understanding ofthe design of A/D and D/A converters, this book describes the designof high-speed A/D converters, high-accuracy D/A and A/D converters,sample-and-hold amplifiers, voltage and current reference sources,noise-shaping coding and sigma-delta converters. Integrated Analog-to-Digital and Digital-to-Analog Converterscontains a comprehensive bibliography and index and also includes acomplete set of problems. Product Description
Simplified Design of V/F Converters shows how to design and experiment with V/F converters, both voltage-to-frequency and frequency-to-voltage. The design approach here is the same one used in all of John Lenk's best-selling books on simplified and practical design. Throughout the book, design problems start with guidelines for selecting all components on a trial-value basis, assuming a specific design goal and set of conditions. Then, using the guideline values in experimental circuits, the desired results are produced by varying the experimental component values, if needed.

If you are a working engineer responsible for designing VFCs, or selecting IC converters, the variety of circuit configurations described here should simplify your task. Not only does the book describe converter-circuit designs, but it also covers the most popular forms of VFC ICs available. Throughout the book, you will find a wealth of information on VFC ICs and related components, including how to test and troubleshoot completed circuits.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
This book provides almost no information about designing VFCs despite its title. Rather it is a collection of manufacturers data sheets and application notes about how to use a limited range of prepackaged VFC/FVC chips.

Even Chapter 6 which was billed as describing "a number of discrete-component VFC and FVC circuit approaches"is only a rehash of circuits from the National Semiconductor linear handbook based round their IC implementations.

I could not recommend this book to anybody. If you have had little or no exposure to use VFC/FVCs circuits then Iwould recommend reading the Analog Devices etc. data sheets and design guides rather than wasting money on this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introductory V/F converter book
This is a good book for getting your feet wet with V/F converters.Lenk has done a good job of compiling application notes and manufacturer's tricks and techniques on V/F converter circuits into a small, easy-to-read book.

After you become acquainted with basic V/F circuits using this book, you may find yourself scouring manufacturer's websites yourself, for more in-depth information. But this book is a great start.Lenk gives the reader plenty of building-block circuits to work and learn with. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for practicing engineers
I purchased this book a little longer than one year ago, trying to get a better overall understanding of various A/D and D/A.This book did not let me down.

The book provided quite a few implementation examples of A/D and D/A of various architectures. The Matlab code as examples for analyzing the A/D and D/A of various architectures has been very helpful.

The data listed on page 25 about resistor matching are out of date.Modern process technologies can do better than those numbers.

Overall, Paul G.A. Jespers did a good job writing this book.

Product Description
The Analog to Digital Converters represent one half of the link between the world we live in -- analog -- and the digital world of computers, which can handle the computations required in digital signal processing. These devices are mathematically very complex due to their nonlinear behavior and thus fairly difficult to analyze without the use of simulation tools. High Speed A/D Converters: Understanding Data Converters Through SPICE presents the subject from the practising engineer's point of view rather than from the academic's point of view. A practical approach is emphasized.

High Speed A/D Converters: Understanding Data Converters Through SPICE is intended as a learning tool by providing building blocks that can be stacked on top of each other to build higher order systems. The book provides a guide to understanding the various topologies used in A/D converters by suggesting simple methods for the blocks used in an A/D converter. The converters discussed throughout the book constitute a class of devices called undersampled or Nyquist converters. The tools used in deriving the results presented are:+TopSpiceTM by Penzar -- a mixed mode SPICE simulator -- version 5.90. The files included in Appendix A were written for this tool. However, most circuit files need only minor adjustments to be used on other SPICE simulators such as PSpice, Hspice, IS_Spice and Micro-Cap IV;

+Mathcad 2000 -- Professional by Mathsoft. This tool is very useful in performing FFT analysis as well as drawing some of the graphs. Again, the mathcad files are included to help the user analyze the data.High Speed A/D Converters: Understanding Data Converters Through SPICE not only supplies the models for the A/D converters for SPICE program but also describes the physical reasons for the converter's performance. ... Product Description
Power electronics is a discipline spawned by real-life applications and evolving from the need to solve power conversion problems. Historically, system implementations or circuit topologies found widespread application long before they were thoroughly analyzed. Today, however, engineers must thoroughly understand the nonlinear behavior of a system to achieve the better design, functionality, and reliability that modern applications demand.Complex Behavior of Switching Power Converters provides a systematic treatment of the procedures for observing, identifying, and diagnosing switching converter phenomena such as chaos and bifurcation. After a review of the fundamentals, the author presents some recent findings and discusses computer, laboratory, and modeling techniques for studying complex behaviors. The focus then moves to the nonlinear dynamics of various switching coverters. Here the author emphasizes circuit operation rather than mathematical abstraction, and whenever possibe, explains phenomena in terms of the physical circuit operation.Knowing when and how nonlinear phenomena occur is essential in the design and operation of power electronics. With a careful balance of theory, computer techniques, and laboratory experiments, this treatment forms a practical reference for engineers and an ideal starting point for anyone who needs a basic understanding of analyzing complex behavior in power converters. ... Product Description

Time-interleaved Analog-to-Digital Converters describes the research performed on low-power time-interleaved ADCs. A detailed theoretical analysis is made of the time-interleaved Track & Hold, since it must be capable of handling signals in the GHz range with little distortion, and minimal power consumption. Timing calibration is not attractive, therefore design techniques are presented which do not require timing calibration.

The design of power efficient sub-ADCs is addressed with a theoretical analysis of a successive approximation converter and a pipeline converter. It turns out that the first can consume about 10 times less power than the latter, and this conclusion is supported by literature.

Time-interleaved Analog-to-Digital Converters describes the design of a high performance time-interleaved ADC, with much attention for practical design aspects, aiming at both industry and research. Measurements show best-inclass performance with a sample-rate of 1.8 GS/s, 7.9 ENOBs and a power efficiency of 1 pJ/conversion-step.

Product Description
For the first time in power electronics, this comprehensivetreatment of switch-mode DC/DC converter designs addresses manyanalyticalclosed form equations such as duty cycle prediction, outputregulation, output ripple, control loop-gain, and steady statetime-domain waveform. Each of these equations are given varioustopologists and configurations, including forward, flyback, and boostconverters. Pulse Width Modulated DC/DC Converters begins with adetailed approach to the quiescent operating locus of a power plantunder open-loop. The reader is then led through other supportingcircuits once again in the quiescent condition. These exercisesresult in the close-loop formulations of the subject system, providing designers with the ability to study the sensitivities of asystem against disturbances. With the quiescent conditions wellestablished, the book then guides the reader further into theterritories of system stability where small signal behaviors areexplored. Finally, some important large signal time-domain studiescap the treatment. Some distinctive features of this book include:*detailed coverage of dynamic close-loop converter simulations usingonly personal computer and modern mathematical software*Steady-state, time-domain analysis based on the concept ofcontinuity of states Voltage-mode and current-mode control techniquesand their differences of merits A detailed description on setting updifferent equations for DC/DC converters'simulation using only PC ... Product Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners approaching the market in Latin America face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries to Latin America? What is the dollar value of these imports? How much do the imports of converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries vary from one country to another in Latin America? Do exporters serving the market in Latin America have similar market shares across the importing countries? On the supply side, Latin America also sells to the international market of converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries. Which countries in Latin America supply the most exports of converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries? Which countries are buying their exports? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries in Latin America. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries for those countries serving Latin America via exports or supplying from Latin America via imports. We do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Latin America fits into the world market for imported and exported converters, ingot molds, and ladles used in metallurgy or metal foundries. ... Read more
