Product Description
Make every Christmas a cookie craft Christmas! The holidays offer just the right combination of cold weather and family togetherness for cookie crafters to elevate their skills to showstopping new heights. With more than 60 new Christmas cookie designs, along with festive New Year’s cookies and lovely Hanukkah treats, Cookie Craft Christmas delivers colorful inspiration to cookie decorators just when they need it most.

Each spread features a full-page, close-up photograph of one cookie cutter shape with detailed decorating instructions on the facing page. Some pages feature one gloriously decorated cookie, while others might feature two or three interpretations of the same shape — ornaments in complementary colors, Christmas trees decorated in varying styles, or gingerbread men wearing a rainbow of colors and patterns.

Decorating instructions are as simple as tinting cookie dough green before baking Christmas trees or as intricate as piping hair on a gingerbread grandma, creating a frilly pattern for her apron, and decorating her dress using a pretty feathering technique. Techniques are described in full in a Decorating Glossary, and cookie and icing recipes are included.

Fresh inspiration and fabulous decorating ideas fill the pages of this handy little sourcebook. It’s the perfect gift for anyone who has ever picked up a pastry bag.

Publisher's Note:

The chart on page 17 gives ingredient quantities for making royal icing with meringue powder. Please note that you should use only 4 teaspoons of meringue powder for 2 cups of confectioners' sugar in both the piping and the flooding recipes. (The table incorrectly gives the meringue powder quantity as 4 tablespoons.) This will be corrected in reprints of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars just the perfect book for decorating cookies
This book is just what i was looking for.Simple, with easy explanations and amazing ideas for cookies. It's just the answer to all my questions about cookie decorating for Christmas. The authors are quite generous and humble not only sharing their recipes but their desing ideas. Great little book, it made me orderCookie Craft: From Baking to Luster Dust, Designs and Techniques for Creative Cookie Occasions days after, and i'm excited for the next cookie baking time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Valarie and Janice for another amazing book......
I have so many post-it note flags in this book! I was so inspired (see customer images) I had to share my photos!! I am a beginner at this, I have been watching Martha Stewart do it for years, but really needed a book like this to get my groove on, LOL! Thank you Valarie and Janice for the much needed inspiration.

To all you busy moms out there, it is not impossible to make gorgeous cookies. Follow the directions of this wonderful book (small but mighty) and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish! I have 6 kids underfoot, and was able to decorate over 150 cookies as gifts this Christmas. I didn't buy any gifts or go to the mall, I just got in the kitchen with this book and went for it. I took 1 day to bake, and the next to decorate. Next year I will start earlier. They keep well in clear favor bags sold at craft stores, with a pretty ribbon of your choice to close the top. Hope you find this book as inspirational as I did! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Treasury for the Holidays
This is an unusual book, every page full of instructions for beautiful crafts or mouth-watering holiday recipes, as well as many pages containing gorgeous photos of either the finished craft projects or the ready-to-eat food that looks as good as it tastes. The recipes are mostly for the average cook, but some are easier and some a bit more difficult to prepare.

While I've had my copy of this book approximately two decades, I find it as interesting to read now as I did then; a timeless and wonderful book to peruse during the holidays. Something for everyone can be found within these pages. Although this book does contain many different nativity scene projects done with different techniques, and requiring different skill levels to complete, there are an abundance of other craft projects so that nobody need feel left out.

Amazon.com no longer sells this new, however many third party sellers have copies available in any condition, including new, most of them at very reasonable prices. If you love crafts and cooking, this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to do
These crafts were fun and easy to do with materials you might have around or are cheap to get.I liked the stories that went with each craft. It fit well with our Church Christmas theme of "World Peace".The book's price tag was also not too high so it fit into our budget and saved our Advent Event this year!

I loved this book! First of all, it describes a lot of crafts that I used to do with my mother. Second, it offers a variety of easil-to-follow descriptions and ideas for the holiday season with pictures and helpful drawings. I am sure I will come back to this book every year.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Ideas for Christmas for Young and Old
This book contains many fabulous ideas for different crafts and decorations to do in preparation for Christmas, and all can be done with children. What I loved most about this book was that all the crafts are beautiful and sophisticated (no construction paper chains here!), with detailed instructions and designs. The projects included are candles, calendars, wreaths and table decorations, lanterns, angels, transparencies, straw stars, transparent stars, Christmas stables, and geometric figures. There is something for every interest. I would say that all the projects would require adult supervision, and probably from 3rd to 4th grade up to adult. A small book, but a treasure book of ideas. ... Read more

If the words “classic Christmas” make images of Christmas cactus, fruitcake, and roast turkey dance in your head, then Classic Crafts and Recipes for the Holidays will make all of your yuletide dreams come true.

Arranged in ten chapters with such names as “Cranberries,” “Nuts,” “Citrus,” “Leaves,” and “Pinecones,” this festive compendium of holiday ideas and recipes is certain to show you how to make every Christmas one to remember. 5-0 out of 5 stars Martha's christmas revisited
This was an older book, but, Martha is a classic and so are her books, beautifully photographed and filled with lovely ideas, easy to follow recipes and crafts for the holliday season.I am happy to add it to my library!

5-0 out of 5 stars Paper FUN
Martha Stewart does it right!!We joke and smile when it comes to Martha...AND we have to admit once we buy one of her products, she does it right every time...this book is an excellent example with ideas and patterns for crafting with papers..

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Beautiful Book
The photographs in this book are absolutely stunning. You could set it on your coffee table for guests to look through, and even if they don't know a Meyer lemon from a tangelo, they'll take great pleasure in looking through this book (they'll learn something, too).Everything is lovingly laid out, photographed and eloquently described.Buy the hardcover edition, because you'll want to keep it for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Holiday Treasure - and gift
Martha's Holiday book this really touched my heart. My mom has always grown Amaryllis and Christmas Cactus, chapters 4 & 5 really were a delightful surprise. I now know the Christmas Cactus the I have is called "White Christmas". When I told my mom about the charts, she was so interested in the book (she lives in Ohio and we live in Fl.) that I am immediately sending her one for Christmas. My son is a personal chef - so we all love to cook and I love to decorate. The pictures are great as usual, but I think I like the charts about the topic in each chapter. They are beautiful and informative. It was great to see the different types of pine cones and citrus. The best part is that even if you don't use these ideas during the holidays - the things you have learned will be useful all year and will be great to share with friends and family.
Some items may have been in Martha Stewart Living - that's great that the special ideas have been put in this holiday book to keep and treasure. (I don't keep every magazine - I will treasure this book). Thanks again to Martha!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Lotsof reprints from the magazine
You know this going in, but there arent' as many really neat "new" things as the last books. More biscotti, and a lot of good uses for the endless bags of cranberries in the back of my freezer.I'll start on those for Christmas about November 1, I think. If you like Martha, this is the fifth in the series, but there wasn't anything besides the cranberry stuff that really "grabbed" me.Still, it's great to continue your collection. ... Includes a Paper Angel Garland, Snowman Clay Pin, Chenille Christmas Stocking, and more. “Complete instructions, patterns, and material lists for each project....Inexpensive, easy-to-make designs.... Will provide a holiday season to remember.”—Country.
Amazon.com Review
Everyone runs short of time at the holidays, but busy crafters can easily squeeze in dozens of extra projects with the quick and easy ideas in Michele Thompson's Two-Hour Christmas Crafts. The slightly overcrowded but well-photographed pages are crammed with ornaments, stockings, candlesticks, topiaries, wreaths, decorative boxes and bottles, picture frames, centerpieces, card holders, lamp shades, guest towels, and more--some nicely glitzy, some quaintly country, some romantically Victorian.

Directions are quite brief and occasionally too superficial, but most are adequate for these fairly simple projects, and patterns are included where necessary. Beginners can seek further help from the general instructions section, which helps clarify the basics of decoupage, fabric painting, wirework, polymer clay, and other common techniques. More advanced crafters will appreciate the quantity of pretty projects they can whip up--often in far less than two hours. --Amy Handy ... Read more

Admittedly, I'm a big holiday geek, and I thought I'd save some of the inevitable end-of-the-year indulgences in new decorations by actually making stuff myself.Cool stuff, with nails and tree branches and things. This book, it turns out, is pretty, but it's more about glue guns and glitter. The crafts are not particularly suited to sharing the creative impulse with children. It's for adults--among whom it seems I should not be counted. But, if you've got lots and lots of time to glue, this is your ticket, your flying carpet, your Great Holiday Testament.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" if you like to try a little bit of everything
This book has a place of honor in my collection of various craft books. It is packed full of absolutely gorgeous crafts that you would proudly show off in your home or give to your friends and loved ones. What I particularily liked about this book is the wide representation of different craft techniques from all (and I mean all) types of needleworks to working with gourds, floral crafts, folk art painting, food crafting etc. My main craft passions are crochet and floral crafting but as I already have many books for these two crafts, I was looking for something that dabbled in a little bit of everything and this book did not disappoint me. The stunning projects will inspire you to try your hand at other types of craft techniques no matter what craft you are most passionate about.

If your creative passion is in the kitchen I must warn you though, that the recipes in this book are far outnumbered by the amount of craft projects. If you tend to serve your standard turkey and stuffing Christmas fare however, you will be pleased that the recipes here do not sway you to try something completely different but rather give you appetizer and dessert options as well as some crafty edible and non-edible food ideas to decorate your Christmas table. You will also find recipes that are suitable throughout the holiday season such as hot soups for warming up the kids after spending an afternoon outdoors or for preparing a Christmas morning buffet or a New Years Eve fare. Not only are there ideas of what to feed your guests there are also quite a few food gift ideas along with inspiring packaging projects such as country style jars and gift bags to show off your accomplisments.

As for project skill requirements, there is so much diversity that there is definately something to suit every skill level. I beleive those that will benefit most from this book however, will be avid crafters that are interested in trying a little bit of everything...and if that's you...don't hesitate...buy the book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful crafting and decorating ideas
This book is filled with beautiful ideas and inspirations. It's well laid out and the directions are clear and easy to follow. It does however contain a lot of recipes. If I wanted a cookbook that's what I'd buy.I find many of these wonderful books end up using recipes as ways to add to the number of pages. Many of recipes are nice but I have my own collection of holiday recipes and recipe books. If you like recipes mixed in with holiday ideas, great! If you don't, this book is still worth having as the craft section is super !

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of ideas
I got this book a month ago and still haven't really read through the thing in it's entirety yet. It's full of ideas!
It's a big book for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable book filled with projects
I think the thing that most struck me about this book was the variety of projects. They really mean it when they say the projects can be done all year long.I also like the fact that the projects range in skill level. This book gives me something to aspire to.The designs are cleaver, and the projects are definately sometihng you will want to give out to others.Projects include various types of crafts such as painting, decorating, stitching, and a hoarde of great recipes.A definate purchase for the craft person inside of you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than I had expected
I love this book.It came nicely packaged and quickly. It is one of my favorite books to share and to do projects for my grandchildren. It was inexpensive for what I got.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous
This book is absolutely adorable!I don't think I can make any of the crafts, but I don't care.

Years ago when the first "Gnomes" book came out I fell in love with the drawings. The book was always wow expensive, and I never bought it.Now, who cares? This "Gnomes Book of Christmas Crafts" is wonderful. It starts out with carved gnomes.I can't carve, but I might try copying the design in clay. There are full-sized patterns, detailed instructions for sewing, and full color copyable pictures to work with. There are sewing projects (can't do it), painting projects (can't do it), and even ideas for baking and decorating cookies like gnomes (YES I CAN!).Lovely, lovely, lovely.I have to see if I can get our local supermarket to color copy the gnome figures onto edible paper to decorate the cookies.

The little storyline about the author and her family is 'whatever,' but the pictures of the home (theirs?) are nice, and give a real Scandinavian look to all the projects.

This book is definitely for people who like gnomes.(And little red mushrooms with white polka dots.)It's Christmas-y enough with an Adventcalendar and stuff, but it's for year-round gnome lovers. And oh, wow, the lady-gnome tea cozy!
