Product Description
Thai Massage, Sacred Bodywork is a complete guide to an ancient practice that benefits body, mind, and spirit.

Interest in Thai massage has been growing rapidly. This is no surprise given its unique multifaceted approach to the body. Thai massage combines acupressure, stretching, reflexology, assisted yoga postures, herbal compresses, prayer and meditation. It benefits everyone. Sometimes called the "lazy person's yoga", Thai massage stretches and relaxes the muscles, increases the joints' range of motion, and balances energy flow throughout the body.

Thai Massage, Sacred Bodywork provides fully illustrated, step-by-step instructions which enable the reader to use this integrative and interactive therapy with a partner at home or with a client. The book explains the historical and philosophical background of Thai massage as well as its religious origins. Throughout the book, Ananda always reminds us of the deeper meaning of this sacred modality - compassion in action. A must for all those interested in the healing arts. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok
I recently received my book in the mail. The weirdest thing, when I was deciding on which thai yoga book to buy, I read various reviews on various books.Since returning to the site, I don't see a single review on this book??Maybe it's listed twice?Either way, I think the book is fairly good.If your more of a "visual" person much like myself I would recommend buying something different.Immediately, I was disappointed by the illustration (photos) in this book !!!They pretty much appear as if someone xeroxed them to the point much of the photo quality has been lost. Also, their in black and white.I would recommend this book to someone, as an additional reference to other books, dvd's, and resources on thai yoga.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tremendous contribution to Thai Massage
This is a must have for every practitioner of Thai Massage.Ananda is a gifted master of Thai Massage and has done a great service sharing her vast knowledge of this healing art.The photographs showing the wide variety of moves unique to this modality are easy to understand. The accompanying text is well written with precise descriptions of the techniques, the anatomy and how it is affected, and valuable information about the Sen lines I have not found elsewhere. It is meticulous.I love this book and often use it for reference.Along with Asokananda's books, this is the best Thai Massage book available.

5-0 out of 5 stars learning thai yoga massage
Before I began my journey with Thai Yoga massage I looked at a number of books on the market. When I found this book I knew it was the right one for me.The text is easy to read and understand and the illustrations are clear.Miss. Apfelbaum is someone who is able to articulate a bodywork treatment that is complex, beautiful and above all healing.I would advise anyone who wishes to learn Thai Yoga massage to use this book as a tool. She also has a website, a video (that is great for when practicing at home) and does workshops.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Thai massage book on the market!
With Thai Massage, Ananda Apfelbaum has made an important contribution by capturing this sacred healing art with clarity and precision. It presents a comprehensive overview followed by a clearly illustrated, complete, full-body Thai sequence.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in experiencing
the tremendous benefits and joy of this ancient practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workbook
Ananda's description of Sacred Bodywork is beautifully illustrated, explained and documented. She has captured the essence of this art and science.I can attest to this as I was with her in Thailand one of the many years that she studied with Pichest Boonhumme. She gathers in this book her years of studying, practicing and teaching Thai Yoga Massage. Shecombines her deep spiritual awareness with a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology in a way that elucidates the therapeutic value of her craft. Its usefulness is enhanced when used with the video tapes although one could learn without the visual aide. I do use this book in my own teaching and practice and am appreciative of its authentic, detailed methodology.I highly recommend it. ... Read more

Product Description
It is now widely recognized that among both orthodox practitioners and the general public there is a surge of interest in natural methods of healing and health maintenance. Massage has become one of the most popular methods of natural healing, including the related body work techniques of shiatsu, acupressure, manipulation of joints and aromatherapy. Few books written on massage have recommended its use in tackling all the aches and pains commonly experienced as a result of a hectic pace of life - tension headaches, backache, indigestion and insomnia, for example. The same goes for massage and body-work techniques as a preventive measure, a lifestyle activity - a daily health programme of self-help and exercise to keep bodies in peak form and condition - which ensures that people are better prepared for the stress and strains that each day brings. This guide to massage is arranged for convenience in sections, each focused on an area or system of the body and its associated aches, pains and complaints. The techniques are specifically suited for these areas and conditions, so that, at a glance and with minimal practice, they can be easily followed for instant effect."Dos and don'ts" are emphasized throughout, including those occasions when the symptoms demand referral to a qualified medical practitioner. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE Bodywork Bible!
We are certified massage therapists in the San Francisco Bay area. When clients ask us about lesser known or unfamiliar modalities, this is the book we reach for. It is concise, well-written, easy to understand from thelayman's point of view. It has even helped us in the enhancement of our ownpractice by providing a guide to further studies and research to improveour practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely well-written and well-organized book.
I am a teacher, and so when I read a book, I'm always very aware of how well-organized and well-written it is.I picked up "Bodywork" because I've had lower back pain off and on for years.I was interested intrying some hands-on therapy to help it.Bodywork helped me find somerelief for it.My pain is not completely gone, but I am better able toalleviate and manage it than with pills.

What struck me most about"Bodywork" is that in addition to being very informative, it isextremely well-organized and well-written.This makes it a very handyreference book.I found it educational and inspirational, without being"preachy".I recommend this book to any other readers who areinterested in learning more about how hands-on therapies can help them.

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING OVERVIEW OF THE FASCINATING WORLD OF MASSAGE
This is an excellent overview of the fascinating world of massage and body-mind healing therapies. I've always been interested in massage, but had a hard time figuring out what all the different types are. ThomasClaire's BODYWORK helped demystify this world for me. I especially likedthe fist-hand account of the experience of different kinds of massage --they were really helpful. For instance, the first-hand account of areflexology session helped me understand what foot massage is all about, and to know that I would like to try it.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOK ON BODYWORK
This is the best book on bodywork I've read. I love massage, but was confused by all the diffrerent styles that are out there -- Swedish, Alexander, Reiki, Shiatsu -- to name just a few. I've read a lot of bookson massage, but it was Thomas Claire's BODYWORK that helped me find themassage that was right for me -- and make the most of it. I highlyrecommend this book to anyone interested in finding out more about massageand bodywork.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great practice management tool
Once you get your massage license, that still does not mean you are ready to practice, at least that is what I learned.I knew nothing about how to create a private practice, if I should do house-calls, work for a chiropractor, the list goes on an on.This book covered all the bases and gave me a solid foot on the ground. It brought up points I hadn't even thought of, like by living in a tourist area, my practice might suffer in the off-season, and gave me ideas when to start marketing to prepare for this slump time. This book is a must-have for people starting out as a massage therapist.

2-0 out of 5 stars not what I thought it would be
I thought this book would give people some helpful info on whether or not they should become a massage therapists or as the title says Body/Work - whatever that is really since I have never seen anything with the words put together like that.It is more for people who already are massage therapist but there are much better books on the topic.

This book is really for beginners in a career in massage and doesn't really provide much in depth information.

The most important section on transference shows that the author really doesn't have any concept of what transference is in a massage session. She refers to it as when the massage therapists takes on the energy of a client.Well that is counter-transference and it isn't taking on the energy of the client or feeling what the client is feeling. The MT needs to be responsible for their own feelings. What they feel when working with clients are their own feelings.

Transference occurs in a relationship where there is a power differential that happens. In massage it starts from the minute a client thinks about getting a massage. The process of seeking help for a condition, stress or pain often resembles the parent/child relationship and that of being cared for by the parent. It is a subconscious process that occurs. It is not to be limited but allowed to be as that is where the real healing begins on much more than just a physical level. What allows healing to happen through the transference is having boundaries.

It probably isn't the authors fault that they don't understand it and just shows more of how the massage schools are not very helpful in teaching this aspect of being a massage therapist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything a would be or starting therapist needs to know about their potential career
Massage therapy can prove to be a very useful and lucrative career. "Body Work: Careers in Massage Therapy" is a career guide for those who are considering a career in massage therapy. With tips on evaluating if it's truly the right career path, finding a school for training, the lucrative nature of privately owned operations, and dealing with clients, "Body Work" is everything a would be or starting therapist needs to know about their potential career.

5-0 out of 5 stars A valuable resource for the small business person
What a great read!"Body/Work: Careers in Massage Therapy"is a wonderful resource for anyone operating a small business. Although intended for the person interested in building a successful massage therapy practice- Kayse's new book really succeeds in emphasizing high-level customer service practices which are relevant to any business owner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know about working in the Massage industry.
If this book had been around 17 years ago when I started out on my massage career, I would have definitely had an easier time.
You will get great insights on how to start your practice, expand your clientele, market yourself, even choose a massage school!
The book is a good read even for seasoned MT's like me, and I highly recommend it for anyone who is even thinking about going into massage. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the $5!!!
If you are a massage therapist looking for GOOD marketing advice for your business, DO NOT buy this book! The information contained in the 14 pages of this book can be found on most internet sites for FREE!!! I know, because I've downloaded 90% of what the author has written. I'm extremely disappointed. Just providing a list of "what to do" does nothing...what we need is someone to teach us "how" to do it!! A total waste of $5!!! But then, you get what you pay for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Bodywork
This cd is great for sports massage and deep tissue work. The tempo helps keep the therapist moving around the table and it is very hypnotic and relaxing for the client. Played quietly for a massage session, the breathing isn't even noticeable. None of my clients have gotten sexually excited from this cd playing during a therapeutic massage session. I love this cd and would like more music like this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very erotic music
This is a fantastic CD to use during lovemaking.
There is a rhythm present that, well, is very suggestive, sensualand "rhythmic".
I would suggest it to anyone as a wonderful addition to their bedside music library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tantric Sexuality...
All I can tell you is this:

I gave my lover a very slow sensual/therapeutic massage to this CD.

We were both breathing heavy ; )

It's great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for creating romantic, sensual intimacy, as well as background concentration music
I purchased this cd recently and I love it! I've been playing it non-stop both to create a romantic, intimate and sensual environment, but I also discovered how awesome it is just playing in the background while working on the computer, reading, stretching after a workout, gently swaying or dancing, or for just chilling. It really sets the mood if that's what you are looking for (my partner loves it too!) but I love how it does double duty for great background music.

Details:The cd comes with a paper cover sleeve as shown in the picture of the product. When you slide the case out, there is a booklet inside the jewel case that explains the four tracks of the album and how they relate to Tantra. When you open the booklet, there are 14 pages that consists of instructions on what Tantra is, Tantric exercisesand essential principles of Tantric practic (creating sacred space, chakras and chakra breathing techniques), how to give and receive sensual massage, Meditative lovemaking and a list of Tantra organizations on the last page.

All in all, a very informative little booklet inside the cover, which I was most pleased to see!
The music in itself is purely instrumental - there is no chanting, no singing at all.Once in awhile you will hear a woman breathe out, in a seductive manner, but it's part of the rhythm of the music and not at all offputting - quite the opposite in fact! I love how the music has a pulsing beat, which is steady and if you so desire, you can dance either sensually for yourself or someone else, or use gentle swaying motions with arms, hips etc as a means to work out the daily stressors and kinks from your body.

Highly recommended!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for sex, wonderful concentration music
I work a lot from my computer, so background music is a wonderful asset. The beat is very calming and soothing. Some have commented on the sounds of lovemaking--well, it's just breathing to the beat. That's it.The breathing happens on Tantras 2 and 3.Not a distraction for me, but then I'm not actively listening.Besides, since I also do Yoga and Pilates, the breathing is like a cue for deep breathing. ... From the ancient Indian tradition of Ayurvedic healing, these head massage techniques have long been shown to relieve headaches, improve circulation, and ease muscle pain and tension. Combined with meditation, visualization, and breathing exercises, they can treat indigestion, harmonize the body’s energies, help with psychological problems, and even drug and alcohol dependency. This guide gives busy people ways to experience the benefits of head massage throughout the day—starting with a shower massage, continuing with a series of brief self-massages during travel and at work breaks, and then, at bedtime, sharing an intimate massage routine with a partner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Body Tune-up
This book covers the human body literally from head to toes. The book arrived in mint condition from the suppplier and was definately worth the money - less than some greeting cards I've purchased! I highly recommend this book if not for the applications, then just for the enjoyment of reading.I don't recommend the contents of this book over getting a regular physical checkup, but it does make a fun read.

5-0 out of 5 stars An intriguing approach to health
Dr Morrison claims that most of our health problems as humans are due to our upright posture, and to our unhealthy diets. By using various exercises, diets and fasts, he explains in this book, we can overcome and even reverse the years of abuse and neglect our bodies may have suffered.
The good doctor says that when nerves are pinched, the flow of energy to various of our organs is diminished, and specific health problems may arise and he gives specific remedies for many of these.
I have certainly benefited from some of the exercises, in freeing up my neck and upper back in particular, and in helping some chronic sinus difficulties.
While some of the doctor's suggestions seem a little bizarre to me - he is a fervent advocate of the rectal dilator to induce relaxation for example, and of the primordial walk, in which we are exonerated to walk on hands and feet (not knees) - overall they make sense, and most importantly, they seem to me to work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly comprehensive and easy to read "little" book.
A truly awesome little book on Qigong (or, as the author prefers to call it "Chi Kung"). Very nicely put together. History, origins, and theory of Qigong at the beginning, then very clear explanations of style and techniques of the Qi building exercises with great full color pictures and graphics on virtually every page. Explains the meridian system very clearly and thoroughly, with excellent insights into Qigong's links to Traditional Chinese Medicine, meditation, and beyond. This is a handy little palm-size book that packs a lot into its 224 pages. It has a jargon-free approach that makes it all very easy to understand and follow, even for a rank beginner. I only wish there were a large print version I could give to my Mom.

If you want to get on the fast track to health and life-loving energy, synergy with yourself and your surroundings, I highly recommend starting with this little book. It will get you there quickly and painlessly.
